As part of Ak ‘Tenamit’s vision, the Buga Mama Restaurant was created, where the students of the degree in Sustainable Tourism put their knowledge into practice, helping not only the provision of local tourist services but also the local development with a conservationist and environment friendly approach.

Caribe Maya Experience
Enjoy a unique 1-hour show in which 20 members of the Garifuna Percussion Orchestra of Guatemala will delight you with the most select of the music and dance of this impressive culture, while expressing their history and traditions.
In order to complete the Caribe Maya experience, you will enjoy the best Garifuna and Maya-Q’eqch’i gastronomy, merged in the tasting menu: Tapado, Casabe, rice and beans, and red salad, which are traditional dishes of the Garifuna culture, and the Pachay Fish, which is a traditional recipe of the Maya Q’eqch’i culture in Izabal. The Buga Mama School Restaurant is runned by the Ak’ TenamitAssociation and it is where Young people studying in the educational project can do internships and become agents of change in their communities.

How to get

From Guatemala City take the highway CA-9 North, towards Puerto Barrios, which is approximately 300 kilometers away. Arriving at Puerto Barrios, head towards the Municipal Pier on 12th Street, to take the public boat to Livingston, which operates from Monday to Sunday from 6:30 am to 7:30 am, 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The boat trip takes approximately 30 minutes. Once in Livingston, take the main street, cross to the left 100 meters from the pier, and then about 40 meters, is the entrance to the restaurant, which is located on the banks of the River Dulce.
